Symbols and Experiences
Symbolic revelations are as meaningful and as revealing as the understanding that you have of the revealed symbol.
If the knowledge of the symbol is limited or distorted, the interpretation will also be twisted and restricted whereas if the understanding is clear and objective, the revelations will achieve their unfolding and useful goal.
This is an important fact to be considered by those who seek mystic, extra sensorial, or any experience, i.e., if the person does not have the knowledge of the object of perception, it will not be entirely revealed to him, but if the person knows what his subtle senses are perceiving, such an experience will definitely be an enriching moment.
For example, the planets and stars that a normal person sees in the sky at night, and the ones that an astronomer sees, are the same, however, when each one looks up to it, their knowledge, or lack of it, reveals worlds that are completely different from one another.
Similarly, if a person has experienced love and affection and another person has not been exposed to care and kindness, each one of them will react in distinct ways to the same situation.
Therefore, at any time in life, first and foremost comes knowledge, and not experiences, even though experiences backed up by ignorance or half-knowing are probably the commonest approach in our short existences. And because of that, no wonder there are so many confusions, distortions, and suffering in the world.
In other words, if the premise is wrong, it does not matter what you do, you will eventually end up in an undesirable or painful state, either a cognitive or a physical one.
Therefore, always make sure that your main premise, the one of knowledge, is studied and understood so that your symbolic experiences, be it a mystic or an everyday one, will have a more meaningful and more revealing manifestation.
