She Wanted to Feel Loved
“I only want to feel loved”
She said with tears in her eyes
The words came out rushing with a sigh
And a whisper of despair and relief
And she got that feeling, now and then
Which seemed pleasant and fulfilling
At least she thought so
But the price was too high
For he used to belittle her
Put her down so strongly
That she concluded he was the only one
He filled her soul with fear
He decorated her thoughts with doubts
He destroyed her self-esteem
And made a slave out of her
She wanted to leave him
But the insecurity was so high
That she disbelieved herself alone
Or, even worse, with someone else
Every day, she looked in the mirror
And couldn’t see what everyone else saw
Charm, attractiveness, and sensuality
So, she doubted them, severely
Yet, she still listened to her tormentor
And life went on with all its incongruities
Crumbs of love to please the beggar
Fragments of cruelty to satisfy the wicked
Shattered lives by truly natural
But crippling and misplaced feelings of…
“I only want to feel loved”.
